Working with very heavy materials, devices and other items that need to be moved is a common sight in many industries. For this reason cable winches are used by many companies and are eagerly used by professionals. In this article we shall cover the most common places where cable winches are used.

Cable winches – what are they?

Cable winches are a type of lifting equipment in which a set of mechanisms is mounted on a separate supporting structure. They are used for transporting loads vertically, and sometimes also horizontally. The load capacity can vary from several hundred kilogrammes to even several tonnes. You can increase their efficiency by using specially mounted pulleys. Depending on the type of motor, cable winches can be divided into manual or powered models (powered by an electric or combustion engine). There are also pneumatic or hydraulic models.

Cable winches in construction

Both manual and powered cable winches are used alongside cranes and overhead cranes in real estate construction. They are particularly helpful when you need to lift heavy equipment or material onto higher floors. Their design means you can use them in virtually any situation. You can use cable winches to lift:

They can be used to lift roof tiles or bricks for the chimney. They also come in handy for home use, e.g. if you have a well. A cable winch can also be used to remove debris and demolition waste.

Other applications for cable winches

Cable winches can also come in handy in warehouses and storage facilities. They make loading and unloading easier, and also allow you to put full pallets on high racks. In the automotive industry they can be used by mechanics to lift out a heavy engine or gearbox.

Electric cable winches can also enhance safety during work. Suspended models, which lifting mechanism casing forms its supporting structure, are called hoists. They are mounted in rescue and military helicopters.
